QUAD ROOTER Vulnerability

Check Point Software Technologies has revealed details of a new Android vulnerability that affects phones using the Qualcomm chipset. The vulnerability called ‘Quad Rooter’ affects over 900 million devices, according to Check Point.

Quad Rooter is a set of four vulnerabilities affecting Android devices built using Qualcomm chipsets. Qualcomm is the world’s leading designer of LTE chipsets. If any one of the four vulnerabilities is exploited, an attacker can trigger privilege escalations for the purpose of gaining root access to a device. However, this can only be done through the use of a malicious app, so always tread with caution when installing new apps. For example, only download apps from the Google Play Store.

HOW ATTACK IS DONE?

An attacker can exploit these vulnerabilities using a malicious app. Such an app would require no special permissions to take advantage of these vulnerabilities, alleviating any suspicion users may have when installing.

ANDROID USERS DONT GET PANIC!

Google clarified the security issue and mentioned that this malware is of inactive nature and those who are having Android Jelly Bean or later are totally safe from this system vulnerability. Google officials also claimed that around 90 percent of Android devices are currently operating on Android Jellybean or later, so it is, not at all, a big issue.

They added that the other 10 percent of devices won’t be affected by Quad-rooter malware as Android system is designed to protect user’s security. Officials claimed that there are certain features currently running on each Android device, which are proficient enough to save the targeted device from any kind of malicious attack.

However as an extra security measure keep your android devices up-to-date.
